There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, features 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights many amenities accompanying the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
